Do Not Disturb by Freida McFadden (Narrated by Megan Tusing & Daniel Thomas May)

Fast, Clever, and Chilling

5 out of 5 stars

What a ride. I devoured Do Not Disturb in one sitting, completely pulled into Quinn’s flight from the life she once thought was perfect, until it nearly killed her. Freida McFadden doesn’t waste time with a slow burn: we’re dropped right into the aftermath of a violent, desperate act, and from there it only escalates.

The eerie Baxter Motel becomes more than just a pitstop on Quinn’s way to freedom—it’s a character all on its own. Between the mysterious long-term guest, the seemingly gentle motel owner Nick, and his ever-watching wife across the street, I was constantly wondering who to trust. It had the perfect stormy, cabin-fever energy that reminded me of The Shining, but with McFadden’s signature twisty pacing and psychological tension.

I especially loved how the story touched on resilience, not just from Quinn, but also from other characters who quietly carried their own losses and disappointments. Freida does such a solid job creating vivid side characters who are just as compelling as the main thread. And that ohhh moment when everything clicks into place? Classic Freida, and just as satisfying as I hoped.

The narration from Megan Tusing and Daniel Thomas May was top-notch. They really elevated the emotional beats and suspense, and I could feel the cold dread creeping in with each new revelation.

My only tiny nitpick? Quinn processed her husband’s death a little too fast emotionally, but honestly, with everything going on, it’s hard to fault her.

If you want a thriller that’s fast, clever, creepy, and chilling in more ways than one, this one’s worth checking in.

Book Description:

Quinn Alexander has committed an unthinkable crime.

To avoid spending her life in prison, Quinn makes a run for it. She leaves behind her home, her job, and her family. She grabs her passport and heads for the northern border before the police can discover what she’s done.

But when an unexpected snowstorm forces her off the road, Quinn must take refuge at the broken-down, isolated Baxter Motel. The handsome and kindly owner, Nick Baxter, is only too happy to offer her a cheap room for the night.

Unfortunately, the Baxter Motel isn’t the quiet, safe haven it seemed to be. The motel has a dark and disturbing past. And in the dilapidated house across the way, the silhouette of Nick’s ailing wife is always at the window. Always watching.

In the morning, Quinn must leave the motel. She’ll pack up her belongings and get back on the road to freedom.

But first, she must survive the night.
