Planning for Year-Long Art Class, Art Curriculum

It’s another week and we are well into June! If you’re on vacation now because school has already ended, I am so happy for you and I am lifting a glass of whatever your favorite beverage is to you! If you end school at the end of June such as where I live, then you are so close and know that I am rooting for you to the end!

I know you are oh-so-teacher-tired at this point and honestly can’t be bothered, but if you are needing some inspiration for summer art or end of year art lessons, or ideas for planning for Back to School so you can be ready for BTS before you leave at the end of the year (or are too far into your summer vacation plans) then this is the right spot for you.

Why?

I got all the things for you AND also a free scope-and-sequence that will make planning for your upcoming school year THAT MUCH EASIER.

First, I’m going to talk about a few end of year activities you can use in those last days, then I’ll introduce some of my new Summer Art Projects to you, and finally I’ll get to the main point, which is Planning Year-Long Art.

Now before we go there, and if you missed the news, I did give birth to my first child, Ava last month! I am so overjoyed (and exhausted), and I don’t even remember what life was like before her. It’s as though she has always been here (even though she’s only 4 weeks old at the time of writing this!). Thank you all for the kind words and inspiration you sent me before and after I had her and as I prepared for a c-section for this breech baby. You all got me through it and took away a lot of my anxiety!

Now, let’s get into the good stuff.

End of Year Art Projects:

If you’re living in an area like me that has school until the very last days of June, then you might be needing some inspiration for the End of the School Year. At this point, you don’t have much time left, so I highly recommend some easy art activities instead of full-blown art projects. Right now, I have some really popular items and they include:

-End of Year Challenge Cards: Use these many challenge cards that fit onto half-sheets of paper (saves you paper and time at the photocopier) as art lessons for the day (they explore themes of end of year, elements of art, and creativity!) or as bell-ringers, fast finishers, or in between finishing up those end-of-year everythings. They’re super fun and just the right amount of busy work for kids who have checked out already.

End of Year Grid Draws: These are super cute and fun for end of year art! These full page cartoons are great for primary and elementary students to help them practice their drawing skills before the end of the year in end of school year themes!

End of Year Coloring Pages: If you’re really done and you are in survival mode or you just want some coloring pages that will actually LAST A LONG TIME, try these end of year coloring pages. These are not AI generated, I actually drew them (I actually create all my own graphics and clip art for all my resources) and they are zentangle style so they will last your students a long time, keeping them busy. I don’t like coloring myself (because I like to draw!) but my students always went NUTS for these pages and it kept them busy endlessly, whether they were in kindergarten or 5th grade!

End of Year Art Classroom Printables: If you want to create memories and end the year with those classic worksheets but with an Art Classroom twist, I recommend this resource. It has a Find Someone Who, Artist Profile, Top 6, and so much more, all in an art classroom theme!

Summer Art Lessons and Projects:

Instead of end of year, you might be looking for some summer art resources, whether for your classroom or to do over the summer with your homeschooling family or own children to keep them busy. I have designed some brand new, literacy infused art resources JUST FOR THIS! Now only are my new art projects full art tutorials with absolutely everything you need for planning, assessment, and instruction (including a PowerPoint!), but they also include Reading Comprehension and Writing Activities to make this a solid art resource that includes literacy, having your children or students practice a variety of skills all under one theme. If you’re looking for ways for encouraging critical and creative thinking, then these new art lessons are for you.

Planning for Year-Long Art with Scope and Sequence & Art Curriculums:

I know I have said this before, but I will say it again: plan for back to school before you leave for the end of the school year. Or at least have a game plan at the beginning of your holidays, get it busted out while it is fresh in your mind and then you can turn your brain off from teaching allll the way until the first day of school (so you don’t have to go in unnecessarily early at the beginning of the year/at the end of your holidays).

I like to have at least the first week planned in my planner, lesson plans done, and things photocopied for that first week. I also like to have my scope and sequence all done so that I can relax and have that ready to show my administrators when they request it.

Now, because I have been there/done that, I already have things ready-to-go for you, so that way if you’re in a pinch and you need some “done for you” art resources, I got you covered. In the rest of this message, the resources here will literally have you done the majority of your planning for the entire year.

I’m going to say that again incase you missed it.

The resources here will have your planning done for the year.

THE YEAR.

Year-Long Scope & Sequence:

Okay so first is a gift from me to you and it is my Scope and Sequence for art for K-8 with clickable links and it is an instant download. All I ask from you in return is to follow my TPT store OR leave it a review! There is no cost for this one so I recommend grabbing it incase your admin asks for a scope and sequence, you can provide this right away or use it as a base for your own plans. Grab the K-8 Year Long Scope & Sequence Here!

Middle School Elements of Art Curriculum:

If you teach middle school, then I highly recommend my Middle School level Art Curriculum that focuses on the Elements of Art for each grade. Each grade also explore a different “Theme” so that way, as kids move through your program year after year, there isn’t any overlap in the art projects! One year they explore the elements of art through the theme “Weather”, the next it is through the theme “Light vs Dark”. There are also other additional resources to give you a plethora of resources to have you planned for the year or semester without needing to do additional planning or research. And of course, all my art projects come with lesson plans and all your assessment done so you can submit all of that if you need to right away.

You can grade my Middle School Elements of Art Curriculum here!

Elementary K-5th Grade Elements of Art Curriculum:

If you teach elementary and primary grades, I also have a version of the Elements of Art, art curriculum for Kindergarten to 5th Grade! Don’t worry, I have everyone covered! Same idea as the middle school one, each grade has art projects and lessons for the Elements of Art but they explore a unique theme so there is no overlap as kids move up through your program through the years. One year they might make art projects that explore the elements of the art through the theme “insects”, the next might be “animals” or “reptiles”, and then the following year they explore “outer space”. All fun themes that kids love that make your art teaching interdisciplinary! You can grab my K-5th Grade Elements of Art Art Curriculum Here!

60 Elements of Art Lessons:

This is one of my original and best-selling art resources! This provides a variety of worksheets and art projects for each of the Elements of Art. If you need tried and true Elements of Art projects and printables, this provides all your classic worksheets and art projects done-for-you and each one comes with a lesson plan so you don’t need to worry about anything. I also like to use these as sub plans or for maternity/parental leave planning so if that is something you are looking for, this will be a super easy resource to implement for those needs. It is super flexible and easy to use. You can grab my Elements of Art Bundle here!

Year-Long Art Teacher Curriculum Membership:

Finally, if you’re looking for even more and you would rather not do any planning at all and would like endless art lessons to browse with the flexibility of picking and choosing the ones you want to do from Elements of Art, Principles of Design, Artists & Art History, Sketchbooks, Ceramics, Themes, and more, then I would recommend grabbing my art curriculum membership for the upcoming school year called the Artastic Collective Art Curriculum. It is a K-8 art curriculum that also includes an art teacher growth course that provides Pro-D hours, directed drawing videos, and an art teacher forum so you can chat with me and other art teaches at any time in a private space! You can learn more about the art curriculum and join here!
