Taurus – Not a Normal New Moon

Do you ever feel a lack of energy the days before a new moon?  I do. After the new moon, my energy picks up. How about you? The days before this new moon have been filled with another unsettling dynamic, which is why I say this is not a normal new moon.

April 27 – 12:31 PM PDT – New Moon at 7° Taurus

Each New Moon connects us with a zodiac archetype. Taurus connects us to the rhythms of nature and the natural unfoldment of the cyclical process of life. Taurus invites us to learn from nature, where things are the way they are — without pretense, apologies, or need to prove anything.

Nature is magical, majestic, and abundantly rich with all its forms and infinite nuances. Flowers don’t hesitate to bloom at their right timing. They don’t apologize for their short lives. Trees don’t ask us if they can grow taller each year. Under the built-in impermanence of reality, there is a quiet process that endures. We don’t have to question, overthink, or prove anything. To be at peace and enjoy our short human journey on this magnificently beautiful planet, we simply need to cultivate the art of being present with what IS.

The human mind has been obsessed with labeling each item. What is the name of that flower? But does it matter what name someone has attached to a tulip, a rose, or daffodil? Could we just stop for a moment and absorb the beauty, indulge in the rainbow of colors, and appreciate what will soon be a wilted fragment that returns to its mother the Earth?

Within the cycles of nature, there is a foundation that offers us a sense of stability and a joyous connection with the reality that is always peacefully unfolding in the natural world.

Our Foundations Are Shaking

The cosmos (non-physical reality) also has its rhythms, which operate within (and support) its evolutionary process. At the macro level we can count on the Sun, Moon, and planets moving sequentially through the 12 signs of the zodiac from Aries to Pisces.

The first earth sign Taurus likes stability. But what is stable? What can we count on?

Sometimes our sense of stability is challenged to our core. This is one of those times. That is why this is not a normal new moon.

Just 18 hours before the new moon, Mars and Pluto oppose each other for the third and final time. Their first opposition occurred on November 3, 2024 at 29° Cancer-Capricorn. The second was on January 3 at 1° Leo-Aquarius.

The Mars-Pluto opposition is one planetary alignment that exposes the fact that our foundation and sense of stability is shaky. This opposition has been active for almost 6 months. And now for the grand awakening — the Mars-Pluto opposition is squaring the Taurus New Moon, forming a ‘T’ square among the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius). Fixed signs like stability and resist change. However, squares demand choice, and oppositions demand integration. There is a huge build up of tension. Something is commanding our attention. Either we change voluntarily or choices will be made for us.

In so many ways, the foundations of our life are being tested. We must ask ourselves ‘What is my foundation that I can trust? Is this foundation an authentic expression of who I am? What do I need to confront and/or change to be more true to, embody, and express my soul self?’

Becoming Conscious of Our Unconscious

We all have issues that we have avoided facing head on. It is part of the evolutionary process of awakening to become conscious of what has been unconscious, so we can live more authentic lives.

What Is Your Issue?

What have you been dealing with that is demanding a change in attitude. a choice, or action? What have you resisted dealing with because (1) it was too uncomfortable to face, (2) you accept it as the way things are, or (3) you have felt a sense of safety with this program or situation in place? Like it or not, attached or not, what is no longer sustainable and must change?

Mars-Pluto Oppositions

Because of their retrogrades, there are 3 Mars-Pluto oppositions. The final one coincides with the Taurus New Moon April 27. The build up of tension, along with the discomfort, stress, and resistance we have been feeling reaches a climax just hours before this Taurus New Moon.

This third and final alignment at the New Moon is a powerful catalyst for change. We can finally get to the crux of the matter. We can finally dig deep enough to identify the programmed script that has been running us. This script has been so woven into our psyche that we have considered it as a ‘normal’ part of who we believe we are. Because this core belief has dictated how we operate in the world and interact with others, we have assumed it to be part of our identity. We have allowed it to define who we are. But that is no longer a viable life or survival strategy. Probably it never was.

Two Wills – Mars and Pluto

Mars and Pluto both represent with how we deal with anger, fear, power, conflict, and control.

Mars (now in Leo)  represents our personal will —  (1) our vital and assertive energy, (2) our passion and how we choose to use our energy, (3) what motivates us, (4) how we wish to express ourselves, (5) what we choose to create, and (6) how we direct our lives.

Pluto (now in Aquarius) is the higher octave of Mars. Pluto is the will of our soul. Our personal human Mars has its ideas of what it wants and how it uses its energy. But if it is not aligned with the will of our soul, there will be friction, dysfunction, resistance, stress, and deep unhappiness. The world will be uncooperative. We won’t achieve our goals and wonder why.

Have you ever decided that you really wanted something, didn’t get it, and then realized you really didn’t want it anyway? We all have! Or have you really wanted something, got it, and realized you actually didn’t want it? We all have! That is the Mars/Pluto dynamic – how our human self and soul interact. Our soul, Pluto, always wins. With experience and age, we learn to listen to our soul, to our heart. We learn to understand resistance as the voice of our soul guiding us. Awakening is about listening to and following our heart.

Resist or Accept Reality

Our human journey is about learning to accept and flow with reality. We have to give up trying to control or resisting reality. There are many forms of non-acceptance – denial, rationalization, blame, fighting, and confrontation. In the fight, resistance, non-acceptance mode, the world feels oppressive, unfriendly, controlling, and abusive. We feel like a victim. Something or someone outside us is the bad guy. We project our dissatisfaction and anger on to others, institutions, authorities, and circumstances.

Pluto reveals the shadow inside us that is attracting and even creating these abusers. Pluto is the cosmic Pogo. ‘We have met the enemy, and he is us.’ Pluto requires that we get brutally honest with ourselves. Only total honesty satisfies Pluto. Pluto is a harsh teacher.

Pluto exposes where and why we are giving away our personal power and how we are entangled in story lines that compromise our integrity. Pluto exposes how we compromise our soul with distorted interpretations, blaming others for our problems and choices, and trying to control or manipulate situations to avoid facing our fears and the facts.

Pluto doesn’t allow us to bend reality. Pluto says ‘get real.’ Are we needing approval and attention, or are we seeking alignment with reality, with the truth, with our truth?

Mars in Leo is about having the courage to be true to ourselves. This doesn’t mean being confrontational or demanding in expressing our needs. It can mean peacefully walking away, being silent, and staying connected to our own inner foundation — our heart and soul. This requires (1) identifying and letting go of conditioning that has caused us to be inauthentic to survive, (2) cultivating a relationship with ourselves that is at peace, and (3) finding our inner foundation that does not need to convince, be right, impress, or seek attention.

Of course, the Pluto process can be disorienting, since we have been conditioned to please and play by hierarchical rules to survive. It is challenging to give up fake stories that have been living through us.

The Taurus Bull is an ancient symbol of the Great Goddess. The Taurus New Moon offers us a sacred alternative — to live by the unassuming laws of nature — quietly and peacefully living our lives without need for validation, approval, or self-calculated results.

Taurus helps us find our stable and nurturing foundation in the Earth, with our Mother.
