Six Moons, Seven Gods (The Legends of Baelon #1) by Robert A. Walker (Narrated by the Author)

A World You’ll Lose Yourself In

4.5 out of 5 stars

Six Moons, Seven Gods by Robert A. Walker was the kind of audiobook that swept me off my feet almost immediately. From the very first chapter, I found myself pulled into the vivid, richly imagined world of Baelon. A land teeming with thieves’ guilds, assassins’ leagues, and power struggles that kept the tension sky-high. If you’re a fantasy lover who craves fast-paced action and a touch of political intrigue, this one is absolutely worth diving into.

One of the biggest standouts for me was the character work. Walker crafts characters that feel so authentic, so driven by believable (and often conflicting) motivations, that I couldn’t help but get emotionally invested. The banter between Spiro and Reynard was a particular highlight—sharp, witty, and surprisingly heartfelt at times. Every conversation added layers to their personalities and pushed the story forward in a natural, compelling way.

The narration was another huge win. Having the author narrate the audiobook can sometimes be a gamble, but here it absolutely paid off. Walker’s delivery was emotionally spot-on, giving each character their own distinct voice without ever feeling over-the-top. The production quality was top-notch too—crisp sound, excellent pacing, and just a hint of atmosphere that made everything feel even more immersive.

Beyond the twists, battles, and… [no spoilers here], Six Moons, Seven Gods carries deeper messages about self-deception and ambition that lingered with me long after I hit pause. It’s rare to find a fantasy story that balances high-stakes action with real philosophical weight, but Walker pulls it off beautifully. And with the way things ended? I’m already counting down the days until the next book releases.

If you’re hunting for your next epic fantasy audiobook—especially one that feels vivid, dynamic, and genuinely fresh—Six Moons, Seven Gods should be at the top of your list.

Book Description:

One must be careful practicing deception. The easiest to deceive will always be one’s self.”

The skilled thieves of the Takers Guild plot to overthrow the kingdoms of Baelon, but when their plans are thwarted by a prescient woman and her brooding daughter, they must turn to the League of Assassins for assistance.

Meanwhile, retired royal guard Rolft Aerns returns to the palace of King Axil with an old score to settle. When they all cross paths–and swords–in the dark shadows of Fostead’s south end, nothing is as it seems, and the murder count rises quickly.

The long fingers of the Guild reach everywhere, and one overly ambitious thief is all it takes to spark a chain of events that will haunt the world of Baelon for many years to come.
