An overdue makeup post, and it’s a Daiso makeup showdown featuring UR GLAM, Kyumme and WithCharm. I tested Daiso’s top 3 affordable makeup lines for quality, pigmentation, and everyday use. Here’s what’s worth buying and what’s better left on the shelf.

Before we get started, please understand that this isn’t a full Daiso haul. Your girl is trying to live minimally and intentionally. (Remember my New Year’s post about “Living with Less, and Living More in Tokyo?”) I didn’t buy these just for the sake of reviewing. I got these to replace items running low in my current makeup stash. If it ain’t broke, I don’t fix it. But if it’s affordable and effective? That’s a win. You can find my all-time Japanese makeup faves (and where to buy them) in these posts: Japanese Makeup Brands You Should Try and Where To Buy Makeup In Japan.

UR GLAM: Daiso’s OG Makeup Line

Launched: April 2019
Tagline: “Sexy and Healthy Makeup”
Vibe: Sleek, black packaging. Minimal but actually kind of chic for a 100-yen brand.

I reviewed UR GLAM back when it launched in 2019, and honestly, it’s still one of my favorite Daiso lines. They have over 200 products at this point, from makeup brushes to polish, and skincare!

What I Tried:

  • Film Mascara: Not goopy, semi-waterproof, easy to remove with oil cleanser (shoutout to Kose Softymo!). Good for travel, not drama.
  • Slim Sketch Eyebrow Pencil: Pencil too thin and fragile, but spoolie is solid. Cap stays put, a rare win in 100-yen land.
  • Brush Liquid Eyeliner: Bold and firm. Great if you love a thick line, not for my fellow fine-flick fans.
  • Pearl Rich Cheek Color: Light shimmer that surprised me. Next time I’ll go for a more summery tone.
  • Glitter Eyes: Long-lasting iridescent colors that stay put with minimal fallout

Verdict:

UR GLAM is the steady ex you can’t help but go back to: reliable, not flashy, and always there when you need it. Perfect for backups, travel kits, or teen cousins just starting makeup.

Kyumme (キュンミー): Tokyo Girls Collection Collab Realness

Launched: March 2025
Tagline: “私をきゅんとときめかせる、かわいいコスメ” aka “makeup that makes me swoon”
Vibe: Cute, trendy, very Gen Z, with packaging that screams “shelfie goals”

I’ll admit, I was lured in by the packaging and the fact that I recently dyed my hair reddish pink. I needed new brow products stat.

What I Tried:

Verdict:

Kyumme is for the girls who want to try makeup trends without maxing out their Suica. Stay away if you hate fallout, but the brow stuff? Legit.

&.WithCharm (Wチャーム): The Canmake Clone We Didn’t Know We Needed

Launched: Quietly dropped in Daiso in March/April 2025
Vibe: Very Canmake-core. Super kawaii, feminine packaging, subtle shimmer, with pastel pink packaging
Tagline: Basically: “We saw Canmake, and we copied her homework.”

What I Tried:

  • Lip Tint: Love. She’s sheer, moisturizing, and smells like nothing (a huge win in puchi pura land). Great for purse emergencies. Dupe for Canmake Stay on Balm Rouge
  • Eyelash Mascara: Nope. The brush is more like a mini comb, the formula is gloopy, and I had to tissue off half the product to make it wearable.
  • Eyeliner: Gel? Yes. Pigment? On point. Pencil? Annoying. Gets stubby real fast. Not exactly a dupe for Canmake Creamy Touch Liner.
  • Eyeshadow Quads (not tested): Romantic quads that look like Cezanne with a hint of Canmake Silky Souffle Eyes. Not in a rush to test but very tempting. Maybe I’ll get one to use for Miss M’s recital this summer.

Verdict:

This line is very much “Canmake from Wish,” but I mean that in the most affectionate way possible. The lip products are great. Skip the mascara unless you like a comb-style brush.

TIP: When searching online for &WithCharm at https://jp.daisonet.com/ search for “withcharm” (one word, no spacing).

Final Thoughts: Daiso Makeup Showdown Featuring UR GLAM, Kyumme and WithCharm

“Can you really do your makeup with just Daiso products?”

Spoiler: YES—and the results were better than I expected. Not gonna lie, I was fully prepared for chalky eyeshadow and eyeliner that ghosts me by lunchtime. But girl… some of these slapped! (Am I using that right?)

So, who won the Daiso makeup crown?

  • UR GLAM for basics and backups
  • Kyumme for trend-chasers and babes in brow distress
  • &WithCharm for soft girl aesthetic fans

Would I ditch all my faves for Daiso? No.

Would I repurchase a few of these as backups? Heck yes.

I love seeing how far 100-yen store makeup has come in Japan. And, while I’ll still ride hard for my J-beauty and K-beauty staples (Mude and Deja Vu mascara forever), these Daiso lines make solid additions to a budget-conscious or beginner-friendly routine.

Your Turn!

Until next time—stay cute, stay thrifty, and don’t forget to stock up before the tweens beat you to the good stuff.
