The Church have announced a national tour of their native Australia, in which they will take a retrospective look at 20 of their biggest singles. The tour is set to take place across the majority of November, taking in most states and territories over 11 dates. The full list of tour dates, as well as pre-sale and ticketing information, can be found below.
The tour comes as the band celebrates its 45th anniversary. The Church originally formed in 1980 out of Sydney, featuring Steve Kilbey on lead vocals and bass, Marty Wilson-Piper and Peter Koppes on guitar and Nick Ward on drums. The band has undergone multiple line-up changes over the ensuing decades, with Kilbey the only permanent fixture throughout. He is joined in the current line-up by longtime drummer Tim Powles, former Powderfinger guitarist Ian Haug, multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Cain and Paul Kelly‘s long-serving lead guitarist Ashley Naylor.
The Church – ‘The Unguarded Moment’
The Church have put out 42 singles across their career, with their first being ‘She Never Said’ in 1980. While that song did not chart, its follow-up ‘The Unguarded Moment’ served as the band’s breakthrough – peaking at number 22 on the Kent Music Report (the Australian singles chart at the time). They would achieve international success with their signature song, ‘Under The Milky Way’, in 1988 – which saw them chart in the US, the UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
