Moana 2’s streaming debut on Disney+ navigated the choppy waters to earn top billing in Nielsen’s Top 10 Overall Streaming chart for the week of March 10.
The Disney film nearly crossed the 2 billion viewing minutes mark, falling shy of that achievement with 1.995 billion for the week. Moana 2’s audience was truly a family/communal one, as 39% of its audience came from the kids 2-through-11 demographic, with another 42% of the movie’s watch time comprising the adults 18-through-49 demo. This suggests that either parents or caregivers were watching along with the kids.
According to Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings, Only three titles during the week of March 10 had more than 1 billion viewing minutes. Netflix had four titles in the top 10, two of them movies and one of the remaining titles having shared streaming distribution rights with Hulu.
It is also notable that the Top 10 Overall Streaming chart only had two non-original titles, with Hulu accounting for both of them.
Previous No. 1 holder Reacher dropped to second place after a two-week stay at the top, with 1.309 billion viewing minutes, followed by the debut of Netflix film The Electric State, starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, which had 1.179 billion minutes viewed.
Re-airs of Family Guy on Hulu had 978 million viewing minutes, taking fourth place, while re-airs of Grey’s Anatomy, shown on Hulu and Netflix, took the No. 5 position with 973 million minutes viewed.
The remaining chart comprised Max’s The White Lotus jumping four spots to land at No. 6 with 949 million minutes viewed. At No. 7 was Disney+’s Bluey, which also had 949 million viewing minutes.
The second movie title from Netflix, Kraven the Hunter, landed at No. 8 with 911 million viewing minutes, followed by Netflix drama series Adolescence, making its debut in the chart at No. 9 with 907 million minutes viewed.
Finally, Paramount+’s 1923 landed in 10th place with 833 million viewing minutes.
