Racing Mount Pleasant are a seven-piece that met at the University of Michigan and spent their early days playing around Ann Arbor, taking their love of intimate, layered musicianship to a higher place.

After releasing their first and only album, Grip Your Fist, I’m Heaven Bound, as Kingfisher, they’ve returned with a new name, song, and deeper purpose. Their seven-minute debut single, “Call It Easy,” falls somewhere between chamber pop, folk, and alternative rock, but the lines are increasingly blurry. Like their live shows, the track is largely ineffable — trite to describe but expansive in feeling and richly detailed. It’s best to just let it wash over you. The band opened for Geese frontman Cameron Winter earlier this year, another promising up-and-comer who released his solo album, Heavy Metal, at the end of 2024.
