Yellowcard have pulled the plug on their Sydney show, set to take place at the Hordern Pavilion tonight (April 9th). The announcement from the band and promoter Destroy All Lines came just hours before doors were meant to open, with a statement from frontman Ryan Key explaining the cancellation came about due to losing his voice earlier this morning.
“It’s the most awful feeling to have to make this statement,” wrote Key. “I woke up today and my voice [was] just completely gone. I saw the doctor this afternoon, and she advised me not to play the show tonight to prevent any further damage. I give you my word I’ve done everything possible to recover for tonight, but I just couldn’t make it happen.”

The statement concluded with a promise that both the band and Destroy All Lines were collectively working “to figure out rescheduling as soon as possible”. “We will update you all at our earliest convenience once we have further news,” it read. “We appreciate and thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult situation.” It also noted that this week’s shows in Newcastle at Bar On The Hill on Friday, April 11th and Brisbane at the Fortitude Music Hall on Sunday, April 13th were “proceeding as per schedule”.
The tour’s main support act, Motion City Soundtrack, shared the news on their page and encouraged their fans to “show Ryan some love”. “We hope to make it back over here just as soon as possible so we can play for you,” they said. The opening band, Plain White T’s, added that they were “heartbroken” over the development in an Instagram story.
