PPDS supplies LED at USA’s first all-digital public TV station

PPDS has supplied a curved 8.5m by 2.4m Philips LED wall for the first all-digital public TV station in the USA.

“One of the biggest Philips dvLED walls installed in the broadcast industry”, it has been installed behind a 14m glass viewing window at the PBS Appalachia Virginia TV studios in Virginia.

Designed for 24/7 use and capable of presenting content in resolutions beyond 8K, the wall has a 1.5mm pixel pitch and a high degree of colour accuracy, to support any type of content being presented.

Built inside the Hard Rock Casino in Bristol, Virginia, in under one week, PBS Appalachia Virgina is the first television network affiliate located inside a casino.

Julie Newman, PBS Appalachia Virginia’s chief operations officer and general manager, said the installation was “the most spectacular studio within a 500-mile radius”.

The Philips LED wall, together with an array of Philips Signage 3000 and 4000 Series displays installed in the studio, was part of a complete broadcast offering, with PPDS partnering with FX Design Group, DVG and tvOne for the project.

With broadcast now a major focus for PPDS, the company is attending NAB Show 2025 in Las Vegas (April 5-9) – alongside FXD, DVG and tvOne. At NAB, it will showcase a full suite of broadcast solutions used in the PBS project together with a host of others, including the Kia Center, KUSI, WRCB, WAVY TV, KTLA TV, CBS 4 and KHON TV.
