Lesko Urges Glendale To Vote YES For Propositions 401 And 402 – Arizona Daily Independent

Maricopa County Supervisor Debbie Lesko has joined a number of leaders in Arizona calling for Glendale voters to support the passage of Propositions 401 and 402.

Lesko says the measures are critical in shaping Glendale’s future growth and development.

The Glendale City Council has been anticipating the opening of VAI Resort’s first phase. However, the out-of-state activist labor union group, Worker Power, has paused its progress, collecting enough signatures to force decisions made by the council to a public vote.

This group is attempting to overturn a unanimous Glendale City Council decision to approve a zoning agreement and general plan amendment to bring essential elements of the new VAI Resort to fruition.

The passage of the two propositions is critical for the completion of the VAI Resort, which will be the state’s largest resort and will generate more than 2,000 jobs and more than $2 billion in new tax revenues. A YES vote on Proposition 401 upholds a unanimous Glendale City Council approval of a general plan amendment. A YES vote on Proposition 402 confirms the Council’s unanimous zoning approval.

The election is by mail-in-ballot only and will culminate on May 20.

“As someone who has long fought for policies that strengthen our local economy and improve the quality of life for West Valley residents, I fully support Glendale Propositions 401 and 402,” Lesko said. “These measures promote responsible development and smart planning and ensure that we—not some out-of-state activists—maintain control over our community’s future.”

Lesko called the VAI Resort, “one of the most exciting new projects in the Valley, helping to create thousands of new jobs and enhancing Glendale’s status as a premier destination.” Lesko says that passage of the propositions “will facilitate continued growth in the Westgate Entertainment District, ensuring Glendale remains a hub for business, tourism, and economic opportunity.”

“Glendale voters have the opportunity to say ‘yes’ to smart growth, new jobs, and a stronger local economy,” Lesko said. “I encourage everyone to vote YES on Propositions 401 and 402 in the May special election.”

Yes for Glendale Campaign Chairman Grant Fisher called Lesko’s support a sign of why passage of the two propositions is so important.

“No one understands the vibrancy of the West Valley economy like Debbie Lesko,” Fisher said. “From the State Legislature to Congress to the Board of Supervisors, she has consistently prioritized what’s best for her constituents, including good jobs and a high quality of life. We are grateful for her support and appreciate her dedication to doing what’s best for Glendale.”
