Virginia-Highland Cafe Closing After Fiery Spat With Mega Landlord

With a strong lineup of anticipated openings this season, here are the restaurants we are saying goodbye to in March.

Honey Bubble Tea blames landlord for closing

In a fiery Instagram post, Honey Bubble Tea says it is closing after 13 years of business because of rising rental costs by Selig Enterprises. The cafe on Ponce de Leon Avenue, across the street from Hotel Clermont, says they are “bullied and treated like trash.”

Eater Atlanta has reached out to Selig Enterprises (whose tenants include the Colonnade Restaurant, the newly opened For Five Coffee Roasters inside the Google building, multiple spots at The Works, and Ansley Mall) for a comment. Honey Bubble Tea has not announced a date for closing and is currently operating; it hopes to relocate and has asked readers to weigh in on where they should head next.

Austin’s Burritos in Buford is up for sale

Austin’s Burritos located at 2463 Hamilton Mill Parkway is listed for sale by the Shumacher Group. Matt DeBusk founded the restaurant in 2018, serving up burritos, carnitas, margaritas, and beer, plus their popular hot honey chicken.

Herban Fix closes quietly this month

A vegan and vegetarian staple in Midtown, Herban Fix, has closed. The minority and family-owned business held a longtime spot on Eater Atlanta’s best vegetarian and vegan restaurant roundups. It was known for its fine dining Asian-inspired dishes for lunch and dinner, including gluten-free dishes like the glazed crispy king oyster mushroom. Chef Wendy Chang (previously Tamarind Thai in Midtown, Northlake Thai in Tucker, and Eurasia Bistro in Decatur) ran the kitchen. Herban Fix’s phone number is no longer active, Yelp has listed it as closed, and an email sent for comment has bounced back.
