Kyle Grimes Named EVP of Hearst Television

Kyle I. Grimes has been promoted to executive vice president of Hearst Television.

Grimes has served as both president and general manager of WCVB-TV, Hearst Television’s flagship Boston station, and as a Hearst Television regional vice president overseeing all the company’s New England stations since 2023.

Grimes will move from Boston to the company’s New York headquarters, expanding his oversight across a broader portfolio of stations. His successor as WCVB president and general manager will be announced in the coming days.

“Kyle has done exceptional work balancing the leadership of WCVB while simultaneously overseeing the strong brands within our New England footprint,” said Michael J. Hayes, Hearst Television’s president. “He’s an executive who has spent his entire career with Hearst Television and brings with him a breadth of knowledge and experience over his career from a collection of our markets, which will serve him well in his next role.”

In his prior position, Grimes held management oversight of WCVB, Boston’s ABC affiliate, as well as WMTW-TV and WPXT-TV, the ABC and CW affiliates serving Portland-Auburn, Maine; WMUR-TV, the ABC affiliate in Manchester, New Hampshire; and WPTZ-TV and WNNE-TV, the NBC and CW affiliates serving the Plattsburgh, New York, and Burlington, Vermont, television market – representing the largest New England presence of any television broadcaster.  These stations will remain in his oversight portfolio, as will an additional portion of Hearst stations.

Before working at WCVB in 2020, Grimes was president and general manager at WGAL-TV, Hearst’s NBC affiliate serving the Harrisburg-Lancaster, Pennsylvania, TV market. He’s also worked as president and general manager of WPTZ-TV/WNNE-TV. Earlier in his career, Grimes served as the duopoly’s news director. In between his two positions at WPTZ/WNNE, he was news director at WPBF-TV, the Hearst ABC affiliate serving West Palm Beach, Florida.

Grimes began his career at Hearst’s California television properties, first at KSBW-TV in the Monterey/Salinas TV market and then at KCRA-TV/KQCA-TV in Sacramento where he was a newscast producer.
