Luke Titus announces new album From What Was Will Grow A Flower

Chicago-bred multi-instrumentalist and producer Luke Titus spent his early days in the city’s jazz and DIY scenes, learning to play drums from J Dilla beats. He’s gone on to share credits with Noname, Steve Lacy, and Ravyn Lenae while focusing on his solo career, which includes his newly announced second album, From What Was Will Grow A Flower, arriving April 25 via Sooper Records.

Falling somewhere between jazz, alternative, and hip-hop, Titus’ sound lives in a prismatic world, imbued with both emotional weight and painstaking precision. You can hear that in “Sideline,” out today, which comes with a video by NYC filmmaker Patrick Linehan. Shot throughout Southern California, Titus performs in a series of different locations, including skate bowls, basketball courts, and parking lots.

“This album is about spirituality and connectivity, both with the universe and the self, as told through my personal journey,” he says. “It questions reality as a way to deepen one’s connection to it. I dedicate this album not only to anyone who has been through hard times, but to anyone who relates to the cyclical nature of the human experience. And more than that, I dedicate this album to my mom.”
