BOOM! Studios has found plenty of success reinventing the Power Rangers franchise in recent years. Why not throw in another popular ’90s tokusatsu series for good measure? That’s basically the thinking behind Boom’s upcoming VR Troopers spinoff.
VR Troopers spins out of the pages of the monthly Power Rangers Prime series, which itself serves as a reboot and Ultimate Universe-style overhaul of the Power Rangers line. The new series is helmed by two Mighty Morphin Power Rangers veterans, writer Mairghread Scott and artist Sebastián Piriz. The first issue features a main cover by Taurin Clarke (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) and variants by James Stokoe (Godzilla) and Christian Ward (Invisible Kingdom).

Here’s Boom’s official summary of the new series:
The VR Troopers are the most elite of the Eltarian empire’s human heroes on Earth, but what secrets are the Eltarian’s keeping? When VR Ryan tracks down a rogue Skug, he’ll come face-to-face with a foe who will change his understanding of VR—and himself—forever!
VR Troopers is a six-issue series, with the first issue releasing in June 2025.
