L’Oréal Paris Elvive Repair Balm

We don’t blame you for the wanting the latest TikTok-viral hair mask at Sephora. But, you may be surprised to find out how many great hair-care products are a lot more budget-friendly and available at your local drugstore. When I asked five celebrity hairstylists (separately) to name their favorite hair mask under $15, I was shocked to see the majority picked the same one. Not new or viral per se, but certainly tried-and-true, L’Oréal Paris Elvive Total Repair 5 Damage-Erasing Balm ($9) is a front-runner with the pros. Here’s what they love about it.

What the Pros Say About This Hair Mask

Giannetos highly recommends this floral-scented hair mask for multiple reasons. “Not only is the price unbeatable ($8!!!), but the creamy formula is rich and indulgent. Infused with almond oil and 17-percent Repair Concentrate with protein, it provides ultra conditioning and nourishes damaged hair.”

Damage can result from several sources, such as heat-styling, wearing certain hairstyles and of course, chemical processing like hair color. “Whether your hair suffers from heat styling, color treatments, or daily wear and tear, this formula helps restore strength, silkiness and shine,” says Korab. Giannetos adds that the mask addresses five signs of damage, too: split ends, weakness, roughness, dullness and dehydration. “This makes it an essential addition to any hair-care routine,” he says. “It’s the perfect 5-in-1!” It’s also great for all hair types, even thick and frizzy strands.

Bataille praises the mask for its ability to repair, strengthen and smooth damaged, overprocessed hair. “It’s great at restoring softness.” And, Korab notes that you’ll see and feel results immediately. “It works to repair up to one year of damage in just one use.” After washing your hair, wring out the excess water and then apply the mask from your mid-lengths to your ends. If your hair is very damaged, you can apply it lightly to your roots as well. Leave it on for three to five minutes, and then rinse it out. The pros recommend using this mask once or twice a week as needed in place of conditioner.
