Republican strategist Scott Jennings caught former Democratic National Committee advisor Xochitl Hinojosa by surprise when he said President Donald Trump should double down on supporting Tesla Wednesday.
Trump purchased a Tesla Model S Tuesday while several models of the line of electric vehicles were displayed on the South Lawn of the White House, Fox Business reported. Hinojosa said that the price tag of the electric car would be a turn-off for American workers, calling it “a terrible PR move.” (RELATED: Scott Jennings Asks Dem Rep Point-Blank Why Americans Should Trust Party To Fix Inflation After 4 Years Of Biden)

“I‘m assuming you agree because as a Republican strategist, you wouldn‘t have advised him to go in front of the White House and drive a Tesla,” Hinojosa said, with Jennings responding, “Of course I would have. You know why? Because if I were advising a Republican president, I would say, ‘Let‘s support American companies that have thousands of American workers and thousands more workers who make indirect products for it.’ Yeah, I think it would be a good idea if American companies did well.”
“So you‘re going to go ahead and support a billionaire, but not support the American worker,” Hinojosa said, with Jennings firing back, “Who do you think makes Teslas, Xochitl? American workers!”
Tesla dealerships and chargers have been targeted for vandalism across the country, due to Tesla CEO Elon Musk serving as a White House senior advisor and as the chairman of the Department of Government Efficiency.
After Hinojosa said that the event was a “quid pro quo,” Jennings responded.
“They’ve got factories all over the place,” Jennings said, with Jonah Goldberg cutting in with, “Including China.”
“Do they not have thousands of Americans?” Jennings asked.
Honijosa said that the visual of Trump getting behind the wheel of the six-figure car would not look good before host Kasie Hunt mentioned Stellantis, with Jennings saying that the United Auto Workers, which had a stake in Stellantis, backed Joe Biden.
“I’ve never seen Democrats so excited to tear down an American company or companies the way they are right now,” Jennings said. “It’s crazy.”
