Two surfers chased into shore by 2.5m shark at Margaret River Mouth Beach, Prevelly


Two surfers have been chased into shore by a 2.5m shark near Margaret River.

Surf Life Saving WA on Tuesday reported a 2.5m shark was spotted at Margaret River Mouth Beach, Prevelly, about 2.15pm.

The shark was sighted about 10m offshore before it chased the surfers to land.

The species of shark is unknown.

A St John WA spokesperson confirmed an ambulance was not called to the scene.

It comes just 24 hours after Steven Payne was mauled to death by a shark on a remote beach near Esperance.

The 37-year-old surfer from Melbourne was in the water just 50m from shore when the shark, believed to be a great white, attacked just after midday on Monday.
