Saquon Barkley has had quite a year. The college star didn’t reach his peak during his first NFL stint with the New York Giants, but anyone who has watched the Giants in the last few years knows that wasn’t all his fault. But after Giants management foolishly decided he wasn’t part of their plans at the end of last season, the Giants’ rivals swooped and what a superb signing it has proven to be.
Barkley’s season came within a whisker of breaking the record for yards by a running back. Eric Dickerson ran for 2105 he set in 1984 with the Los Angeles Rams when NFL teams only played 16 games per regular season.
Barkley was on 2005 yards after the Eagles’ 16th match, but with Philly safely locked into the playoffs, he was one of a plethora of players rested for the final week of the regular season.
He won’t be rested today, and the Chiefs know just one player can’t be charged with stopping him.
“It’s going to take everything we have,” Chiefs defensive end George Karlaftis told reporters on Tuesday.
“He’s a hell of a back. We’ve got a lot of respect for him and I think for us, we’re going to have to be very disciplined in what we do.”
