Angie Kent undergoes egg freezing in Big Miracles

The Australian public has seen Angie Kent in plenty of different guises. First coming to attention in 2015 as an amateur TV critic on Gogglebox Australia, her profile grew in 2019 as she gave out roses on The Bachelorette, then in 2023 she joined decluttering show Space Invaders.

But now viewers will see the Kent as a potential mother, as she pursues embryo freezing on the new season of IVF reality show Big Miracles. It’s something she’s feeling particularly vulnerable about and hasn’t discussed with many in her real off-screen life.

“I haven’t told a lot of people,” says Kent. “I’m really private, which is weird because I know that most of my life has been on television. I’ve dated 20 dudes on national television, so I do get that sounds odd when I say I’m private. I’m going to wait until the show is on so then I can start connecting with women … who have been in a similar situation because it’s hard to talk about it when you don’t know anyone in your life that’s done this.”

At 34 and single, Kent decided to take her fertility future into her hands and took the Big Miracles camera crew along to demystify everything from choosing the sperm donor to going through the procedures needed to create and freeze embryos. Kent has long known IVF was on the cards for her due to the multiple fertility-related conditions she has.

“I was about 25 when I started learning about my health conditions,” says Kent. “For so long, I was medically gaslit and told I just had bad periods, and I was anxious and get over it. Then I started really investigating and being my own advocate and cultivated an amazing team to help me understand what was going on in my body.

“I came to realise that I had endometriosis, adenomyosis, polycystic ovary syndrome [PCOS], interstitial cystitis – the list was truly endless. I was like, oh wow, there is a solid chance here that I may not fall pregnant naturally, so for future Angie, I was always going to consider going down this path.”

Kent is also part of a rising number of single women choosing to do IVF to pursue potential solo parenthood. It’s something she’s proud to be highlighting on Big Miracles to help educate and empower others to consider the options.

“I’ve never really been a conventional person like, oh, I’ll have a husband and then I’ll have children, I’ve always just been like, what will be, will be,” says Kent. “What an absolute blessing from the universe [to be on Big Miracles], it came to me like I almost manifested it. I was like, imagine being able to share my experience as a single queer woman with chronic invisible illnesses. You don’t have to get married or find your perfect person to have a baby any more. You can create your own family.”
