Anna Paulina Luna calls for presidential debate drug test requirement

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) called for drug tests prior to presidential debates, calling into question President Joe Biden‘s mental faculties.

“I think that we need to,” Luna said after being asked about calls for pre-debate drug tests by Sunday Morning Futures hostess Maria Bartiromo. “We’re talking about someone who has the ability to launch nukes.”

The calls for drug tests come as Trump, 77, and Biden, 81, have agreed to two debates, one in June and one in September, and after Trump said he would demand a drug test, accusing Biden of being “high as a kite” delivering the State of the Union address. Trump has been pushing to debate Biden for months, but Biden only agreed to do so in the past few days.

The Washington Examiner reached out to Biden’s campaign for comment.

Republicans have been questioning Biden’s mental capabilities for years, noting consistent gaffes, confusion, and other potential indicators of a declining mental state. Recent polling suggests that voters do not trust that Biden has the mental capacity to govern the country, with the Associated Press finding in March about 60% of Americans said they are not very or not at all confident in his mental state. That is an increase from roughly 50% in January 2022.

Luna explained the reason Republicans have been pushing to hear the audio from special counsel Robert Hur’s interview with Biden is because “we need to ensure that this individual is essentially capable of not just leading this country, but he can make those tough decisions.”

“Frankly, I’m not trying to be funny here, we don’t necessarily trust that he can do that right now,” she concluded. The White House has invoked executive privilege to block access to the recordings.

Other Republicans have suggested Biden has used drugs to boost his abilities during important public appearances as well.

“I was in the State of the Union address and Joe Biden must have been jacked up on something that day. I absolutely believe that from a medical viewpoint and actually have a little bit of good knowledge that happened,” Rep. Greg Murphy (R-NC), a licensed medical doctor, said last week. “He can’t stand, and he can’t stand under the lights for that long, and I don’t think he can keep a concept in his brain that long.”

Bartiromo asked a similar question to independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., but he refused to take a side.
