Pardoned US capitol rioter Matthew Huttle shot dead by police during traffic stop

A US man who was recently pardoned for his participation in the 2021 January 6 Capitol riot was shot and killed during a traffic stop by a sheriff’s deputy on Sunday.

Matthew Huttle, 42, was involved in a traffic stop at 4.15pm in the state of Indiana’s Jasper County by a sheriff’s deputy, authorities said in a news release.

Police allege Huttle resisted arrest and was found to have a firearm on him.

“An altercation took place between the suspect and the officer, which resulted in the officer firing his weapon and fatally wounding the suspect,” police said.

Sheriff Patrick Williamson requested an investigation by the Indiana State Police.

The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with department policy, Williamson said.
