Dealing with dark spots and hyperpigmentation has always been a challenge for me. (Honest admission: I didn’t start applying sunscreen until my late 20s, and it is coming back to haunt me.) Despite my consistent skin-care routine today—and trying what feels like countless products—those stubborn spots seem to have a mind of their own, refusing to fade as quickly as I’d like.
A few months ago, I was approached to test the Ultra Clear 3DMIRACL laser facial. Promising precision and results for all skin types—including darker tones—it seemed like it might be the solution I was looking for. Plus, it has the almighty dermatologist stamp of approval: “It causes the skin to heal and restructure, producing new skin cells and increasing collagen and elastin production,” explains Davie, FL dermatologist Lesley Clark-Loeser, MD.
Ahead, I’m sharing my experience with the Ultra Clear 3DMIRACL laser facial, whether it helped improve my dark spots and pigmentation—and if it might be worth trying for yourself.
What Is the UltraClear 3DMIRACL Laser Facial?
UltraClear is the world’s first FDA-cleared, cold-fiber ablative laser that addresses common skin concerns, particularly those related to aging, all with minimal downtime and discomfort. “UltraClear uses laser energy to vaporize the outer layers of dull, damaged skin while it treats the deeper skin layers with unbelievable precision,” Dr. Clark-Loeser says. She also notes that this causes the skin to heal and restructure, producing new skin cells and increasing collagen and elastin. “The result is smoother, healthier, clearer and younger-looking skin with a more radiant complexion.”
Before the treatment, I had numbing cream applied and then had to wait 20–30 minutes for it to sit on my skin before wiping it off. I walked into another room, lay on the bed and was given UV-protective eye shields to keep my eyes safe.
During the treatment, on a scale of 1–10, I was at around a level seven for discomfort, and I used a handheld fan to cool off my skin. After the treatment, I applied sunscreen and was instructed to limit the usage of products for the next five days. All in all, the actual treatment lasted 15 minutes. Dr. Clark-Loeser also notes that with this laser, you “get great results but with much less pain and downtime than other traditional laser skin resurfacing treatments.”
“Following a 3DMIRACL treatment, we provide specific post-care instructions to ensure proper healing and optimal results,” says Dr. Clark-Loeser. “It’s always recommended to have a skin-care routine that includes daily SPF to help maintain the longevity of your results, along with limiting sun exposure.”
The Results
In the days post-treatment, I used the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Facial Gel Cleanser ($16) and La Roche-Posay Anthelios UV Hydra Invisible Sunscreen ($40) for a gentle skin-care routine. That following night after my treatment, I couldn’t feel my face. Then, two days later, I woke up and noticed dead skin peeling off, so I had to gently lather the cleanser on my skin.
A few months later, my skin was clear, and it was the highlight of every conversation I had with my girlfriends. If you want real results, I recommend trying the Ultra Clear 3DMIRACL facial; it really did reveal brand-new, glowing skin.
