SEATTLE — A 28-year-old man is in custody after stabbing his mother early Sunday while she was sleeping in a domestic attack, Seattle police said.
He has not officially been charged in court, however court documents shed light on the incident.
The Seattle Police Department (SPD) initially reported the stabbing just before 4:15 a.m. Sunday morning, saying officers responded to an address in the Yesler Terrace neighborhood at 12:56 a.m. after a neighbor called 911 when the victim arrived at their door with “multiple stab wounds.”
The victim, a 58-year-old woman, was found with stab wounds to her neck, face, arm and leg on the third floor of an apartment complex on Fir Street. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition, police said.
She told police that her child, who now identifies as male, didn’t have a place to live and had been staying with her. The mother said the son told her to stop worrying about what he is doing and about two days before the attack, the son reportedly said he would kill her family if she didn’t stop looking at him.
The night of the incident, the mother was going to sleep when the son began hitting her with an object in one hand and stabbing her with the other, according to court documents. The son continued attacking her into the hallway when the son then ran away.
The son tried to run from officers after being seen near 8th Avenue and Madison Street, and tossed a backpack onto Interstate 5 during the chase. The man was eventually arrested and the backpack was recovered. Inside, a kitchen knife was found.
The man reportedly told police “in great extent” about stabbing his mother with kitchen knives. Police said the man displayed severe signs of paranoia and had blood stains on his clothes.
