Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-500 crashes five minutes after take-off from Jakarta Airport, Indonesia – Aero World

On 9 January, a Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-500 crashed five minutes after departure from Jakarta Airport, Indonesia.

The Boeing 737, with registration PK-CLC, was operating domestic flight SJ182 from Jakarta to Pontianak, Indonesia with 62 people on board.

On Flightradar24-data, the aircraft was climbing out of Jakarta when radar and radio contact was lost. The 737 lost more than 10,000 feet of altitude in less than one minute and subsequently went missing, and communications with air traffic were lost.

An Indonesian Transport Ministry spokesperson said they are investigating and coordinating the matter with Indonesia’s national search and rescue agency and the transport safety body.

A local newspaper reported that debris and body parts were located in waters of about 15 meters depth.

Sriwijaya Air is Indonesia’s third-largest airline. It has a fleet of 19 Boeing 737s and largely operates domestic flights.
