A Jubba Airways Fokker 50 crashed earlier today while attempting to land at Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ) in Mogadishu, Somalia. The aircraft, a 30-year-old Fokker 50 turboprop registered as 5Y-JXN, was operating a flight from Baidoa airport in Somalia to the country’s capital, Mogadishu. The plane was attempting to land when it flipped over, the left wing separated from the aircraft while the right wing tip fractured, the left wing burst into flames shortly after. All 36 passengers were able to evacuate without injuries,
Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority has said an investigation has been opened, and a preliminary report will be published in due time.
Jubba Airways, a Somali airline that operates both passenger and cargo flights, was founded in 1998 and had a fleet of previously 2 Fokker 50s; one of them has now crashed, leaving the airline with just one aircraft in its fleet.
