Booty Royale: Never Go Down Without a Fight! (Volume 1) – Enter the Idol!

What happened?

Misora has always dreamed of being an idol. Her family runs a karate dojo in Okinawa and as a result, she’s an incredible fighter. However, being an idol is all she’s wanted, so she goes to Tokyo to pursue her dream. She’s picked up by an agency that thinks she could make it. To start, they suggest she starts as a gravure idol, which is to pose in swimwear and lingerie. Misora agrees thinking it’ll be her first step towards becoming an idol. However, they then force her to take a job in an adult video, and this one is perfectly suited for her!

Misora is distraught but agrees as there is a chance that she will get out of it. Well, she will have to fight her way out and if anyone was well-equipped to do that, it’s Misora. It’s a hundred-man kumite. If she wins, she gets to sing and doesn’t have to have sex with anyone. If she loses… it’s pretty much the opposite! Thankfully, Misora is a monster. She puts several guys in hospital, defeating the first twenty-five men with one-punch attacks. Many more men have left, realising that it’s not worth the pain. However, Misora’s biggest challenge is just about to begin. She has to fight Sara Goujima, the Iron Woman.

Her fighting style makes it hard for Misora to counter, but when all appears lost, she gets the strength to continue fighting, defeating Sara and her strap-on. The kumite ended when Misora defeated fifty men, well forty-nine men and one woman. The other fifty ran away. That meant Misora got to sing her heart out and she did. And, it was terrible! However, her fighting spirit got her a TV job. For this, she had to crush a melon with her melons or face a forfeit. At least, it wasn’t an adult video!

What did you think?

I’m not sure where the recommendation for Booty Royale came from, but I’m going to blame Amazon’s algorithms. Anyhow, I saw it and wasn’t completely sold on the idea – it is pretty dark. I mean defeat one hundred men in a row or get gang-banged… Even if she did agree to it, which she didn’t really – it was her sleazy agents tricking her into it, that’s dark. So, I decided to test the water by reading a little online. Well, before I knew what had happened, I had scanned the entire first volume and was more or less hooked. This reminds me a little of Frank Miller’s Sin City. It’s dark and disturbing, but the characters grab you and don’t let go. Misora’s determination and the detail that it goes into with the martial arts is incredible.

Honestly, the fights are as good as any Shounen series I’ve read. Of course, you do have to have the stomach for this sort of thing. There is sex, some of the backstories are horrific and I get the feeling things aren’t going to lighten up over the next eleven volumes. That said, there are some genuinely funny moments too. Anyhow, this first volume did more than enough for me to want to continue. It’s going to be a wild ride, I wonder just how far it’ll go and whether Misora will ever become an idol. Judging by the reaction to her singing, I’m guessing not, but I’ll be cheering her on, no matter what she’s doing… within reason, of course!

This series was released in double volumes, so this book contained volumes one and two. I decided to split the reviews up as there’s a lot to talk about and I barely mentioned the giant anteater, the anaconda, and the second time Misora met up with Sara Goujima. Seriously, this is wild!
