One of the best Ricky Gervais moments in my opinion. Raw and honest portrayal of fame and very emotive.

And its still relevant 20 years later, love island, big brother, britains got talent
Merchant is crying because he wrote that speech and he’s proud of himself
That whole episode is brilliant from start to finish But the last few minutes make it a classic take on modern society where fame at any cost can almost destroy you
I like that the account that published this scene has an LGBTQ profile pic! Jaja talk about hypocrite
Different time, different personality.
Good clip, made even better by that fact I an hear you getting emotional in the background.
More applicable today than ever
So powerful
First time a tv show or film made me cry
A fine comedian… with a big heart.
It's called £150,000
This scene alone is better than all 3 series of After Life
"NO! The Victorian Freak Show Never Went Away. Now it's called Big Brother or X factor"
Steve AHAHA
I know it’s a small detail but i loved that he defended Lindsay Lohan at this time when EVERYONE was dogging her
Just like in The Office (uk), Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant develop the whole tv series to make you laugh, then create the special to make you cry at the end. Brilliant stuff.
Still relevant and amazing today. Nice one Ricky.
Ricky Gervais take a bow.
I swear this is the second time Ricky gervais has made me cry😥😭
In allowing Extras to do this, Big Brother were either too stupid to understand they were being criticized or too shallow to care. Either way Ricky Gervais has been vindicated.
This scene doesn’t just apply to celebrities it also applies to every day people that share their entire life on social media to look good or to impress people. If those people invest half as much time actually improving on their lives instead of always hiding behind a charade of ‘look at me look at how good I am’ then actually the whole world would be a happier place.
You can tell this wasn't scripted by the others faces and its reality hitting home for most of them
😭😭😭😭💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
I have no idea how he got the Big Brother IP for this scene. How did channel 4 go along with this? 😂🤷🏼♀️
I cry everytime 😢 love this scene ❤
absolutely love this
That’s powerful and emotional stuff,I don’t mind saying it brings a tear to my eye…outstanding!
The guy behind merchant just hasn’t got a clue is brilliant
at the end just after the video cuts she gets up and says: "Andy, Andy that was brilliant. im coming with you" "okay." "just give me one second im going to put on a bikini"
It's her laugh, EVERY, DAMN, TIME.
jeremy kyle did the same. wheeling out the bewildered for his fun
Genius
0:00 Never turned my phone volume down so fast!!
Never seen this one. He is right “the Victorian Freak show never went away. It’s just called Big Brother and Idol” 100 percent right. Ricky watch out here Comes Will Smith. You offended the Flying Fish by calling them floppy flippy fish
"We wheel out the bewildered to be sniggered at…"
To be fair, that's how Gervais treats Karl Pilkington. Great speech, though. Brilliant series.
All i want to do is cuddle Maggie here.. Or Ashley Jensen… Her husband killed himself in their house. She's a treasure.
This one scene is more emotionally affecting than anything that came from Afterlife imo
