Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, aka Pigs x7, have released the new single “Detroit,” the first new music from the UK band since their 2023 full-length Land of Sleeper.
The track is a five-plus-minute crusher that’s on the darker side for Pigs x7, slotting somewhere between the noise rock of The Jesus Lizard and sludge doom of the Melvins. A bludgeoning riff pounds away in repetition, setting up ominous bellowed vocals and a breakdown that slows things to a trudging pace. The payoff comes as the band gradually build the tempo back up in the second half of the track.
“’Detroit’ reflects on the worst manifestations of male jealousy and resentment,” stated singer Matt Baty, “and the ways in which a lack of accountability can lead to deflecting responsibility in exchange for blaming external forces like fate or God for perceived injustice.”
In other news, Pigs x7’s lauded KEXP session has surpassed a million views on YouTube. Filmed a year ago, the milestone session was strong enough to get a limited Record Store Day vinyl release and showcases the tight live show that has made the group a mainstay in stoner/heavy psych circles.
Pigs x7 plan to announce a 2025 North American tour in the near future. For now, the band does have a UK/European tour set for Spring 2025. Dates kick off April 3rd in Brighton, England, and you can find tickets here.
