Elizabeth Olsen Hints at Wanda’s MCU Return

The following contains spoilers for Agatha All Along Episode 9, “Maiden Mother Crone,” now streaming on Disney+.

Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2015 Avengers: Age of Ultron and joined the team until Vision’s death in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. After her apparent demise in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the audience would like to know if there are any plans to bring back Wanda.

Disney+ just wrapped the spinoff sequel series Agatha All Along, which follows the successful WandaVision series. Although Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda was not part of the show, she was heavily referenced. The MCU kept the Scarlet Witch’s status unclear after she brought down Mount Wundagore to destroy all copies of the Darkhold, but the series heavily claimed Wanda was gone. Per ComicBookMovie, during a recent convention Q&A, Elizabeth Olsen teased Wanda’s future comeback.

During the event, a fan asked whether she has a future storyline she’d like to adapt for Wanda in the MCU. “Well, honestly, if I were to tell you exactly what I would want I think I would maybe be spoiling something,” Olsen teased.

Well, honestly, if I were to tell you exactly what I would want I think I would maybe be spoiling something.

Kevin Feige genuinely asks us what we want to do with the character, and then he does it. So I don’t know if I can share… I just want to come back.

Many fans were unhappy with how Scarlet Witch’s story played out after her character development in WandaVision. The character went through all stages of grief after losing Vision and their children, Billy and Tommy. However, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness undid all her character development at the end of the Disney+ series, turning her into the film’s antagonist. However, the arc was teased in WandaVision‘s post-credits, as Wanda held the Darkhold, which took over her mind.

It’s unclear where and how Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda will return. Paul Bettany, who plays Vision, has a brand-new series in the works called Vision Quest, which could provide the perfect return for the Scarlet Witch. At the same time, a Wanda solo movie or another series wouldn’t be surprising, especially after the revelations in Agatha All Along that Billy Maximoff is alive and looking for his twin, Tommy.

WandaVision Creator Explained Why Wanda Didn’t Appear in Agatha All Along Finale

The finale to the WandaVision spinoff Agatha All Along was filled with new revelations, especially as Agatha came back as a ghost after Death killed her. However, although Wanda was regularly mentioned on the show, even more so after the reveal that her son, Billy, found a new body in Heartstopper‘s Joe Locke’s character William, who played the mysterious Teen. However, Wanda didn’t physically make an appearance, and the two shows’ creator explained why.

Agatha All Along Showrunner Reveals Why Finale Broke Major Marvel Tradition

Jac Schaeffer reveals the real reason why Agatha All Along broke a major MCU tradition with the final episode.

“[Wanda’s resurrection] wasn’t really a for-real conversation, and to speak plainly, it’s a larger conversation of casting, logistics, availability, and budget,” creator Jac Schaeffer explained to The Hollywood Reporter. The series creator also explained that she didn’t want anything to distract from the story that was being told. “Also, to me, on a creative level, it didn’t feel fair to the character of Agatha. This is her story, and the idea of bringing Wanda back felt like it would upend that in a way.”

So far, the MCU hasn’t confirmed Wanda’s return in a series or solo film, but with many fitting projects in the way, it’s safe to assume Elizabeth Olsen will be back.
