After returning to his position as the host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show this year, Jon Stewart has signed an extension to keep him at the show through 2025.
Stewart will continue his hosting duties once per week (mostly on Monday nights), and he’ll remain as a full-time executive producer of the Comedy Central late night program. Meanwhile, Daily Show correspondents Ronny Chieng, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, and Desi Lydic will continue rotate hosting roles on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The news arrives weeks before the 2024 Presidential Election — on which Stewart will host a special hour-long episode — and the contract extension means Stewart will be leading The Daily Show through the next president’s first year in office.
“I’ve truly enjoyed being back working with the incredible team at The Daily Show and Comedy Central. I was really hoping they’d allow me to do every other Monday, but I’ll just have to suck it up,” Stewart said in a statement. Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and president/CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, expressed relief to have Stewart signed on for one more year. “His ability to cut through the noise and deliver clear-eyed insights is exactly what we need, which is why we are thrilled to have him leading The Daily Show for another year,” McCarthy said.
Stewart’s second tenure as Daily Show host has been a successful one for the comedian and political commentator, with The Hollywood Reporter noting that the show’s ratings improved substantially after Stewart’s surprise return. Meanwhile, Stewart launched a Daily Show companion podcast earlier this year titled The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart.
