One of Ms. Marvel’s original allies is finally back in action. Not only that, but things are heating up both on, and off, the battlefield.
After narrowly escaping a roving squad of Orchis soldiers, the titular hero of Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace #3 finds herself slinking underground alongside her old ally Kareem, better known as Red Dagger. On top of helping Ms. Marvel escape from Orchis, Red Dagger is more than happy to catch up with his fellow hero. Surprisingly, Red Dagger still has full knowledge of who Ms. Marvel really is, just as she is completely capable of remembering where their relationship was headed prior to her untimely demise.

Introduced in G. Willow Wilson and Mirka Andolfo’s story “The Road to War” from the pages of 2016’s Ms. Marvel #12, Kareem has been tied to Kamala Khan since before the two ever met. In school, Kareem and Kamala’s mothers were close friends, so much so that Kareem even lived with Kamala’s grandmother for a time in Karachi. During the day, Kareem was a dedicated student but at night he was one of Pakistan’s greatest heroes under the guise of Red Dagger.
Kareem and Kamala first met while the latter was abroad in Karachi and stepped in to stop a group of street-level criminals. Though Kareem was quickly enamored by Ms. Marvel, he also immediately noted that she was only passing through, and took it upon himself to warn her of the dangers that came with being a superhero on foreign soil. When Kareem embarked on his own stint studying abroad, he stayed with Kamala’s family, growing close to his fellow young hero and eventually sharing his first kiss with Ms. Marvel.
The X-Men’s Most Dangerous Power Couple Proved They’ll Outlive Anything
The deadliest mutant power couple in the Marvel Universe proved all over again why their relationship won’t be falling apart any time soon.
Despite having discovered each other’s alter-egos on their own, Kareem and Kamala never disclosed them to one another. Though this and their differing views on their individual cultural experiences drove a wedge between them for some time, both were able to set aside their differences and keep their romantic relationship going. Following the death of Ms. Marvel, Kareem was one of the many heroes who attended her funeral. He is also one of the few figures in the Marvel Universe who currently retains his full memories of her death at the hands of Benjamin Rabin, the dimensionally displaced villain known as the Emissary.
